She had taken her first few sips when there was a knock at the door. She yelled to Andrews not to bother, she would get it. Smiling she opened the door to find an incredibly striking woman standing there. She was a few years older than Kathryn, fiery ginger hair which hung below her shoulders in loose curls, and the most amazing, yet troubled, blue eyes.

“May I help you?” Kathryn asked politely.

“I was told Graydon was here. Is he in? I need to see him,” she inquired hopefully in her lilting Scottish brogue. Noting the smile start to fade from Kathryn’s face she rushed on, “I am his sister-in-law Suzanne, Aaron’s wife.”

Kathryn’s eyes flew open wide, “Oh, oh my, but you are supposed to be in Edinburgh at your sister’s. Does Aaron know you’re back? Oh, where are my manners? My name is Kathryn, come in, come in.” Kathryn let the door swing open allowing Suzanne admittance.

Suzanne smiled at the frazzled woman. She had learned from Hugh that Kathryn had essentially saved Graydon’s life. That alone earned her Suzanne’s friendship and trust, and the fact Hugh thought Graydon was quite taken with the beautiful woman did not hurt either. Boldly Suzanne took Kathryn’s hands in hers and answered her questions, “Do you honestly believe I would have hid myself in Edinburgh whilst my daughter was missing? And no, Aaron does not know I am back. If he did, he would be roaring mad. That is why I came looking for Graydon. He will be able to ease Aaron into accepting my early return. How could I go to my sister’s not knowing what is happening, not knowing if I would ever see…” her voice caught on the thought, and she could not go on.

Kathryn squeezed her hands to give her some comfort. “Anna’s very much alive, and they have found where she is being kept.”

Suzanne’s face brightened, and then clouded over again. Shaking her head she said, “Not at the house in the country, by the time they got there, she was gone.”

Now it was Kathryn’s turn to shake her head, “No, this just developed early this morning. Graydon, my son Robert, and another boy Matthew are heading to Aaron’s as we speak to tell him Anna was found.”

“If they found her why in blazes did not they get her?”

“My reaction precisely. My son was alone last night when he followed a rather unsavory fellow to where she was being kept. There were several other men in the house, so Robert came back for reinforcements.”

“Oh, so they will be rescuing her shortly.” Suzanne’s brow rose when Kathryn started shaking her head again.

“The kidnappers are planning to move her at sundown tomorrow. I think our men plan to wait until then so they can get the ones responsible for the kidnapping as well as rescuing Anna.”

“The bloody hell they are,” she roared dropping Kathryn’s hands, “over my dead body will they use my baby as bait!” Suzanne was now pacing the vestibule, the color rising in her face.
